Description: The proposed work infuses ATAC’s SBIR-developed Big Data Aviation Analytics architecture into multiple existing and new NASA research programs to provide benefits including aviation data-processing acceleration for real-time use cases, enhancement of platform for hosting machine learning based predictive analytics tools, data access rights management, and data-accuracy improvements. In Phase I, II and II-X of the related SBIR work, ATAC developed a Real Time Aviation Big Data Analytics Platform for In-time System-Wide and Safety Assurance (ISSA), and further expanded it to apply to a broader scope of problems in order to provide a valuable resource for all types of aviation Big Data analysis projects. In the proposed CCRPP-funded work, we integrate the capabilities developed in previous phases with additional data feeds from NASA’s Airspace Technology Demonstration-2 project (e.g., Fuser data) in order to enhance the richness of the analytics and ultimately to increase the commercialization opportunity for the resulting tools. A prototype application utilizing the integrated real time analytics capability is developed in the form of an Operationally Validated Concept (OVC) service. The service interacts with the outputs of the real time analytics capability to produce valuable information for aviation stakeholders. We draw upon our knowledge gained in the earlier phases of SBIR research and continued interactions with aviation stakeholders to narrow the OVC use cases to specific applications that are a challenge to NASA and the broader aviation community. The real time analytics capability and accompanying OVC service is then integrated within NASA’s planned Digital Services for Aviation (DS4A) architecture. This completes the infusion into NASA projects and increases commercialization potential as the service will be made available to both NASA researchers and aviation stakeholders for a ‘test drive’ to verify the accuracy of the information provided.
Benefits: Provide a Big Data aviation analytics platform with safe digital sandboxes and protocols for testing NASA ATD-2 predictive analytics capabilities Enable capability for NASA’s System-Wide Safety project to validate safety risk/hazard identification techniques on large quantities of historical and streaming NAS data Provide one-stop resource for aviation data storage and analytics for multiple ATM-X project use-cases Support ongoing and future machine learning tasks on large datasets in multiple areas of research within NASA Aeronautics and outside

Provide Big Data Analytics platform with integrated machine learning-based decision support capabilities to airspace users Enable near real-time safety analytics and prognostics for safety personnel from the FAA and international Air Navigation Service Providers Enable monitoring and prediction of airline fleet and pilot safety performance using vast amounts of FOQA and other airline data
