Lightweight Small-Scale Turbine Generator

Status: Completed

Start Date: 2017-09-30

End Date: 2019-09-29

Description: As a result of the technology maturation that the “Lightweight small-scale turbine generator” NASA Phase IIE SBIR (contract NNX14CD02C) supported, Metis Design Corporation has generated significant demand for this innovative power generation technology across multiple markets.MDC’s initial targets in consideration of our technology roadmap and customer demand, are Tier I suppliers within the aerospace systems (each are approved NASA suppliers) and mobile power generator manufacturers. These suppliers have expressed interest in our primary value propositions of improving power density and affordability over state-of-the-art power generation products and provided performance specifications as criteria for entering long-term commercial agreements. These criteria represent the goals of MDC’s proposed CCRPP program, which can best be described as maturing the Phase II-E 40kW turbine generator prototype into a turnkey Gearless Electric Auxiliary Power Unit (Gearless eAPU) engineering unit. The execution of the CCRPP tasks will result in manufacturing and certification readiness that engaged market leaders have defined with the MDC team. The gearless eAPU will also serve as a critical building block into applications within the vehicle and building technology markets. These markets have a longer time-to-market than aerospace and mobile power, but have already been engaging with Metis to address their emerging needs.
