SFEM-3 (SlamStick)

Status: Completed

Start Date: 2018-01-30

End Date: 2021-01-30

Description: The Suborbital Flight Environment Monitor (SFEM-3) measures the internal environment of suborbital rockets carrying experiments in order to help future technology demonstrations prepare for flight. During a suborbital flight test, this system monitored acceleration, temperature, and pressure within the payload bay. Flight objectives included demonstration of the functionality of the unit in space conditions and successful collection of data through launch, flight, and landing.
Benefits: • Lightweight: Collects comprehensive measurements in a low-volume, self-contained unit • Accurate: Measures several parameters including acceleration and g-force with precision • Autonomous: Functions without an operator during flight Future Customers • NASA’s Flight Opportunities program • Commercial space industry • Technologists preparing for suborbital flights
