Dust Mitigation Technology for Surface Systems

Status: Completed

Start Date: 2014-10-01

End Date: 2016-09-30

Description:

KSC will adapt the current KSC-developed Electrodynamic Dust Shield (EDS) to a camera lens, reduce the EDS mass and volume, and use space-rated materials for the design. The EDS panels have been tested in a relevant environment and are considered to be at TRL 5. The electronics unit has not been tested in a relevant environment and is considered to be at TRL 4. The EDS consists of three components: 1) A power supply/signal generator with cabling ("electronics"); 2) a glass panel with embedded electrodes ("shield"); 3) a lens-mount that also connects the shield to the electronics ("frame").

Benefits:

This effort will development a dust mitigation system in coordination with CATALYST competition.
