Disruptive Filter Technology for Spacecraft Water Treatment: The New Promise of Graphene Year 1 of 2

Status: Completed

Start Date: 2022-10-01

End Date: 2023-09-30

Description:

New advances in graphene may help close a large consumable gap in the SOA spacecraft water recovery system. This project, in collaboration with the US Army ERDC, will investigate the use of graphene and graphene-like materials as high-capacity regenerative media for contaminant removal and microbial control in spacecraft water systems.

Benefits:

By providing the potential for high-capacity regenerative media, this project would target closure the consumable gap identified under the Systems Capability Leadership Team (SCLT) Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLSS) Roadmap for Water and Wastewater Processing: Gap 06-2925 Robust Advanced Water Recovery System. May also lead to improvement in Earth-based water recovery applications.
