Lunar Surface Operations Modeling Using Digital Astronaut Simulation
Status: Completed
Start Date: 2019-10-01
End Date: 2020-09-30
Description: Building on 1G vs 0G exercise work, the Digital Astronaut Simulation (DAS) seeks to study task performance for successful lunar surface operations. DAS can determine appropriate modifications from ground-based training to make tasks feasible in 1/6G and minimize risks.
Benefits: This project addresses multiple areas in TA 6.3, with the primary being 6.3.4.9 which aims to ensure crew in EVA suits can safely perform diverse tasks. Adequate crew training will enable successful and meaningful lunar surface operations. With accelerated plans, lunar EVA suit training will be limited. This project will improve and verify training and operations planning for lunar missions via biomechanical modeling which requires only EVA suit information and ground-based testing.
