THEIA – Thermal History Exploration Instrument for Artemis
Status: Completed
Start Date: 2021-10-01
End Date: 2022-09-30
Description:
Develop a flight prototype instrument for in-situ thermoluminescence (TL) measurements on the lunar surface.
Benefits:
In situ TL measurements on the Moon can determine the thermal and radiation environment of lunar surfaces in real time, which is relevant for exploration and in situ resource utilization (ISRU). Determining the timing of geologic events that inflict temperature fluctuations (i.e., the thermal history) would support lunar exploration, surface operations, and resource prospecting.
