Explore state-of-the-art technologies that enable optical scanning in the focal plane of transmitter and receiver for LiDAR application. Perform laboratory demonstrations of these technologies that would optimize performance without high penalties in mass, power or speed
Fast, efficient, high field-of-regard, large-aperture optical beam-steering is critical for the next generation of planetary lidars requiring versatile and efficient system designs. In general, beam-steering large apertures comes at the expense of speed due to inertial limitations of moving large optics. In this project, we will explore several state-of-the-art technologies that break that linkage and enable optimized performance without high penalties in mass, power or speed.
