Acoustic Fluid Management Device

Status: Completed

Start Date: 2024-08-07

End Date: 2025-02-06

Description: Parabilis Space Technologies is pleased to propose the development of a novel acoustic propellant manipulation device in response to Z5.06 Servicing and Assembly Applications; Refueling and Storable Fluid Transfer. This device will be capable of liquid gas or fluid phase separation in propellant tanks, ensuring that pneumatic pressurant gas can be vented free of liquid propellant during refueling operations. During Phase I, Parabilis will complete computational analysis of the concept and design a test prototype suitable for microgravity experiments in the subsequent Phase II effort. This work will significantly reduce technical risk and the effort required for prototype testing.
Benefits: The proposed system is applicable to • Nearly any NASA mission that requires refueling, especially for missions with large PMD tanks. • Missions with in-space cryogenic propellant storage • Missions that must ensure liquid outflow or measure liquid location within a tank • Missions that require propellant stirring The applications for the commercial adoption of this technology are similar to the NASA applications: • Nearly any mission that requires refueling, especially for missions with large PMD tanks. • Missions with in-space cryogenic propellant storage • Missions that must ensure liquid outflow or measure liquid location within a tank • Missions that require propellant stirring
