Global Measurement of Martian Winds, Feasible Approaches and Future Needs / Strategies
Status: Completed
Start Date: 2017-10-01
End Date: 2018-09-30
Description:
Assess the merits of submillimeter limb sounder, Lidar, and IR Heterodyne sensors to globally measure Martian winds.
Benefits:
Our understanding of the Mars atmosphere and the coupled processes that drive its seasonal cycles is greatly limited by a lack of observations; particularly measurements that capture diurnal and seasonal variations. In addition to the scientific understanding, understanding Martian winds is a significant concern for sending humans to Mars.
